Students prepare for CBSE board exams, learn to keep vision safe Its examination time and students in almost the grades especially those attempting board examinations have their noses in their books. According to a study done by AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Science), 17% children or 1 out of 6 children aged between 5-15 years are suffering from myopia. According to UN data, countries where myopia prevalence was estimated and measured as low in the past, such as India, will have major increases by 2050. The Creator’s Masterpiece by Sharmista Banerjee

The Creator’s Masterpiece From the hands of the creator, billions of creations do arise. Whether they’re repulsive beasts or beauteous skies, But among these innumerable creations, there’s one that surpasses every other, She is the Creator’s Masterpiece, we call her Mother Nature, Earth’s one supreme Mother. She gives and she takes, She loves but she doesn’t hate. The glorious green grass and the large beauty-bountiful trees make up her silent children, While the roaring and howling, moving and growing creatures, the animals and humans, make up her energetic children. The beauty of Mother Nature is diverse, you can see it in the fruits of her trees, Or the coolness of her breeze, And the smooth and patterned fur of a glorious animal, Or the wit and ruthlessness she shows in her self-made calamities, a payback to the humans who destroy everything natural. To feel this beauty, we must employ our five senses to work conscientiously, There’s just so much to see and discover excitedly. So c...

Indulging into Imperfections by Prasiddhi Singh

“Indulging into Imperfections” We humans always try to fix something up, don’t we? We can't take mess, but we never understand that we are a beautiful mess, distinct, a mysterious mess. No matter how hard you try to fix everything, you can’t; in fact no one has ever been able to achieve that. So why not accept the reality of being what we are, and try to embrace it. Because it's 100 times better to live a life embracing your true self instead of living in denial. And look how beautiful are; the Chaos that we create, the vague, the sacred, the unintentional ones. The love we unravel. I believe that perfection can kill the beauty of our lives ,don't you think? I believe in perfect moment, but a perfect life? It's a facade humans have created. Perfect is good as variable, but imperfections are constant. Frank Natale said: "love is the only constant..." And so, is imperfections so doesn't that mean that imperfections are synonymous to love? What makes you-YOU,...

Our Colourful World! by Umme Hani Manleshwarwala

Colours play a vital role in our life, it is impossibleto imagine a colourless world. Colours reveal the true beauty of nature; it is due to colour that our beautiful planet Earth can be easily identified from space. We love colours when they hum in solitude and we adore them when they come together to splash in wondrous combinations. We wear them, eat them, and imagine them all the time. Colours are a powerful medium to convey moods, feelings and emotions. We use the colour Red to demarcate areas, to indicate indebtedness, and even to point out the radical leftists. We have red balls in snooker and billiards, the bull’s eye is coloured red. This colour gives a feeling of warmth. The colour Green goes way beyond just indicating envy and jealousy to talk about green policies, green architecture, green consumers, and even a green old age! Blue is a colour often found in nature such as the pale blue of a daytime sky or the rich dark blue of a deep pool of water. We often describe this col...

My Mother- My Goddess by Avi Sharma

My Mother- My Goddess My mother is my lifeline. People generally say that heaven lies in mother’s feet. But I feel so that mother herself is a godly being. God couldn’t be everywhere so he created mother, but even God can’t take the place of a mother in a child’s life. I feel that my mother is a goddess. A combined form of many of them… She’s Lakshmi, provides me with everything I need and want. She’s Saraswathi, imparts good knowledge in me. Annapurna as she satisfies my hunger by tasty food. She’s Skanda Mata and Parvati, gives me love and good upbringing. She’s Siddhidatri, teaches me all kins of arts. She’s kali, destroys all my mistakes and guides me on right path. She’s Chandi, protects me from all threats of my life. She’s Adi Shakti- the source of all power and confidence in me. Earlier when I heard the stories of goddess Durga, I got confused that how could anyone fight with ten hands simultaneously. But as I grew up, I understood. Our mother in our house is a form of Devi Dur...

Let’s see how we can practice it with small steps: Your Decisions Steer the Course of Your Life Your decisions must be based on your optimistic attitude towards the future possibilities and you’re planning to materialize them. Everyone makes mistakes and mistakes don’t mean you should change your mindset and start living in fear and making each of your decisions under inhibitions. No matter how strong or average your profile or personality is, you always leave an impact through your decisions and how you deal with the challenges. So keep being impressive and impactful without measuring the magnitude of your achievements. Be innovative and pragmatic in your decision making abilities because extraordinary people never take interest in simple and easy things, they develop enough resilience to accept new challenges and embrace failures in their life. India's festival of Colours: Holi through the eyes of Anvesha Rishi

Holi- The Festival of Colours Colours, what does this word imply? This vibrant life we have! The present! All of the colors represent some emotion- zeal, boredom, peace, hatred, anger, courage, love, and so much more. Prahlada survived the fire because he prayed to Vishnu, while Holika got burned. This marked the victory of good over evil. On this festival of colors, hatred is perished and devotion, loyalty, truth is cherished. According to other myths, Krishna smeared some colors on Radha’s face and she falls in love with him. Both of these stories are famous in different parts of the world. So, we understand that though the colors are different, the emotion of LOVE remains the same to this day. Holi- Tiny word, tremendous bliss. The day to drench in the colors of love, care, fun, joy, and to dissolve in the sweetness of Gujiyas! Just all the good feelings, good vibes the colors stand for. Holi is all about embracing and love. Embracing the imperfections and flaws. Though the rainbow ...

Sisters- You Are My World by Santosh Joshi

Sisters- You Are My World My sisters are the whole world for me. Though I do not recount childhood memories, but today every moment spent with them is weaving a new memory. I know I would find them in every situation standing with me, encouraging me, supporting me, guiding me, holding my hand, correcting me, trusting me, tears rolling in their eyes for me and above all smiling with me in innumerable ways spreading the fragrance of love in the most admirable way. We cherish the bond of love we share, we shoulder our burdens and rely to such an extent that we forget our concerns with a faith that it will be taken care. We understand what we need and without speaking our demands are met. We know that no worry of the world can worry us, as we know that we have solutions in our pockets. The relation is so strong that words can never define the meaning. At times, spending time with them becomes a rare occasion but they miss me on every celebration. The people we meet differ, what we eat diff...

Maa – The Inspiration of My Life...My Mother My Lifeline… by Kamini Shukla

Maa – The Inspiration of My Life...My Mother My Lifeline… She was always with me, when I needed her but today she needs me and I am not available there for her. She is none other than one of my favourite, loveable superstars, “MY MOTHER- MY INSPIRATION, MY STRENGTH and MY COUNSELLOR”. My mother is my GOD. When I need anything, she fulfils my wishes. I remember the day when I was in school and my school uniform got torn. She at once started stitching my uniform and suddenly a mosquito entered in her ear, it was paining very badly. With that unbearable pain, she stitched my uniform. There are many more incidences where she never thought of herself and always kept my wishes as priority. Today after years of my marriage, I am occupied with my family and my work and spare very less time to talk to her. At present, she is not well. S he is bedridden and wants us to come there and spend time with her. Though I make calls and video calls but physical presence is desired. She has all the facili...

MY ROLE MODEL- MY FEARLESS MOM by Chitralekha Kulkarni

MY ROLE MODEL- MY FEARLESS MOM My mom, born in 1931 showed me the right direction, not just in words, but in action too. She got married in 1952, not a progressive society then. As was customary, when my dad came to ‘SEE HER’, she clearly stated that shewould not give even a penny as dowry; nor would she entertain any sudden jewelry or money demands right at the time of Saptapadi, which was a trend then. My dad proudly recounted this incident many a times. As they say, History repeats itself. In 1992, my marriage was fixed. A month later, on one of my visits, my would-be F-I-L told me that ‘10-12 tola’ gold was an ordinary demand that my dad must fulfill. My role model inspired me and I straight away said, “NO, my parents will talk to you tomorrow.” Next day, my dad and my brother went to meet the party. It resulted in a kind of bargaining, and my brother called it off and came back home. Few days later, I told my mom that I was going to return the sari that was gifted to me by them al...

Maa - My Inspiration, My Guru, from a mother’s pen... by Vinita Sharma

Maa- My Inspiration, My Guru, from a mother’s pen... My mother is my world, my everything. I have never seen a lady like her who doesn't have any desires and wants and who’s only happy with kids and her husband. She always works for us from starting of the day to the end with a charming smile on her face. Her day starts at 5 a.m. Morning routine, prayers for the whole family not for herself, sending her four children to school, preparing lunch alone without the help of any maid or helper, and helping us with our homework after we come back. I never found such kind of woman in my whole life. Even sometimes I have some demanding desires but I have never seen my mother demanding anything. She never bought even a single gold earring or saree for herself in her whole life and the big thing is she was satisfied and happy not having any complaint from anyone. From organizing any social function to doing household chores, she was an expert in everything. She placed everyone above herself. ...

Women who Challenged Stereotypes by Devyanshi Bahety

Women who Challenged Stereotypes It is no secret that women have been oppressed and stereotypes many MANY times. Be it “women are weak and emotional” or “women can’t drive”, it is something we were born with. These comments haunt us all the time. One such stereotype that has been stuck with our gender since ancient times is “women are not fit for being leaders”. Yet many amazing women in our history has defied these words and made sexist men’s blood boil. Let us take an example of Cleopatra, one of the most powerful women in the history of our planet. Cleopatra VII was the last in her dynasty to rule. Her reign brought almost 22 years of prosperity in Egypt. Not to mention she is also said to be the doom of famous Roman generals, Mark Antony Julius Caesar. She also bought an end to the Republic. But why do we assume that she was the one who initiated a relationship with those two? Why no one talks about Antony and Caesar’s countless other affairs? Why are powerful women only defined by...

Feminism: an undiscovered aspect by Arva Shakir

Feminism: an undiscovered aspect As women’s day is round the corner, I present to you one of the most trending topics, discussed over dinner tables at every corner of the world- Feminism, which is often confused as women-favouring and man-hating, while in reality it’s all about equality and basic human right to all not just women. Feminism can be defined as a set of social and political movement aimed at providing, or we must say, defendingthe social, economic and political rights of all, not just women. Feminism revolves around ideas for providing women with equal wages as their male counterparts, equal access to health and educational facilities, fight against biased inheritance laws and heinous inhuman crimes that prevail in the society. Sumitha Krishnan is an exceptional example in this connection. She added another chapter in the history for struggle of human rights in India by playing a role as a well-known social activist who fought human trafficking and sexual exploitation. She...

My Mother, My first Guru: a teacher for life… by Rajesh Shrivastava

My Mother, My first Guru: a teacher for life… The most amazing person who changed my life is not any famous one or any celebrity but my mother, my first Guru who inspired to learn English. In my family not so many of relatives have good knowledge of English, even I myself was the student of Govt school where we were not given any chance of learning English at primary level. My mother, though did not have good knowledge of english started teaching me and from that day I got a keen interest in English and it was my maiden lesson that has turned me into a teacher of english and of course I can't forget it as it was given by none other than but my mother. Learn detachment from Shiva, writes young author Avi Sharma

Learn detachment from Shiva Har har Mahadev! On this occasion of Mahashivratri, may lord Shiva bless you with health wealth & wisdom. Lord Shiva is a member of the Hindu trinity. As mentioned in our scriptures, there are three Gunas- Satva (mode of goodness), Rajas (mode of passion), & Tamas (mode of ignorance). Vishnu rules sattva guna, Brahma rajas, and shiva tamas. But you all must be thinking why Shiva, the purest is the ruler of the mode of ignorance. Actually, Shiva is the ruler of people in tamas (bhoot, pret) to guide them on the right path as he himself is above all gunas. Like a teacher who taught an intelligent student may not get the appreciation that a teacher will get after teaching a weak student and making him intelligent. That’s the position of Lord Shiva. Once to teach humans an important lesson of life, lord Shiva performed this Lila. Once goddess Parvati asked the Lord to make a nice house for them and he did. He made a great castle floating in the sky. For ...
