Stuck in ‘The Terminal’ aspiring docs from Indore making the best of it!
Stuck in the terminal just like the movie, more than 45 students from Indore are taking refuges in Slovakia, Europe. Until Tuesday, all the students continued to be stranded in a new country with only one hope to see their parents again soon.
One can never imagine that as a student, but we don’t chose what happens to us, we chose how we react to it. Speaking to these warriors, who are strong and wilful to make the best of it, we learn about the current situation.
Just like the movie ‘The Terminal’, this experience of students from Indore are likely to become an inspirational script for a movie in coming times. From being stuck in frozen college bunkers, playing heroic, escaping the war, battling the fear, now they are contemplating their terminal in between before the happy ending.
Students are now able to get meals with the help from Indian embassy. They are still worried, but taking a small stroll and recalling the positive folk songs of India to cheer up every now and then.
They are not able to connect on calls, but able to send messages to their parents ensuring to keep in touch.
“It’s not the ordeal of walking or starving that we will remember in long-term. What will make our story interesting is the courage we showed... our character and action taken during these tough times.”

“War doesn’t help anyone. As Gandhi said, ‘An eye for an eye will make the world blind’. We lost someone in Ukraine too. Losing a life is what tears us apart as human beings. We want to become better doctors now and ensure saving as many lives as we can.”

“We are scared and worried too. We are unable to have video or audio calls with our families now. However, it is during tough times that heroes are born. We are promptly messaging them. We are trying to show them that things are not as bad as we imagine them.”

“Life is too short and we can only leave behind the kindness. We want to be kind and bring a change in people’s lives. I want to still continue and become a great doctor, save lives and leave behind goodness in this world, not war.”
