Hostel safety in Indore is questionable, troubles of students

Leaving their children to study and built a bright future in the education hub of state Indore, lakhs of parents are most bothered by the lack of security and disaster handling capacity of the hostels here. A grand hostel charging over Rs 12k per month from a student or a budgeted one charging about Rs 7k from a student, most hostels in both the categories are failing to have a combat plan in case of fire. There is a difference in terms of increased facilities like air conditioning or proper flooring, but the congesting continues in most hostels. With major issues and business-minded approach to hostels, students coming to Indore for studies struggle for accommodations. Geeta Bhawan, Bhawarkuan, Vishnupuri, Inderpuri, Vijay Nagar, Palasia, Mahalaxmi nagar and Sapna Sangeeta nagar are stuffed with such hostels. Lack of ventilation Most hostels have closed down rooms approximately measuring 10 feet by 10 feet. At least two students are expected to stay in these closed rooms with no vent...

Coachings are 'Free', regulations only for Schools

Lakhs of students from all over the country and state are not only preparing to crack competitive examination, but are also testing their luck by studying in coaching centres that do not have requisite concern for their safety, health and even education at times. The true scenario for Indore is a growing hub of education and business. Where schools are regularly hammered to consider the welfare of students and provide quality education in a safe environment through affiliation bye laws and state government rules, the large chain of coaching classes face no such regulations and can continue to expand classes like business. Most national coaching institutes are opening and expanding their branches in the city with new institutes in privately owned buildings or floors in commercial buildings. While they are clearly growing and progressing with hefty fees, there is no provision for them to provide quality education or facilities for students. No regulatory body In order to open ...

Not just bags, Create Stories by Deepak Sharma distributing Joyful Bag: Khushyion Ka Basta

Childhood… it is one of the truly wonderful time for anyone’s life. India has a wonderful blend of variety of people. On one end, there is a sight of children who refuse to care about their clothes or belongings, as long as they get to live and explore life. These children are taught to contribute to the household chores, which is taken quite as a task in many western countries. On the other glance, there is a class of growing children, who are blessed with the finest things in life. However, they quickly learn the art of competition followed by ego. Though they are quite content, but limited to their specific way of lifestyle. In a walk down the road, both the children played on different sides. As expected, the fashion forwards were enjoying their time with smart gadgets, competitions or absolute green grass to avoid dust. The other side soaked in dust and pleasures of freedom to act any way they like. While there is nothing wrong with either faces of childhood, there cou...

Crowded coaching classes in Educational hub Indore - no escape for students during Fire

In a city with crowded coaching classes, is preparation even enough just fire extinguishers? Can hundreds and thousands of students escape through the tiny corridors and only one exit in case of a fire? We have grown tremendously as an education hub providing one of the best and even affordable education. But are we not responsible for safety of all the children especially those who leave their homes and come to the city to study? Coaching institutes, where thousands and even lakhs of students from all over the country are studying, lack basic fire safety equipments, preparation and escape routes. This means that in a case of fire, unless really lucky and prepared, most students of the institutes could lose their life. Since Indore is an educational hub for coaching classes and preparation of competitive examination, this could mean a much worse tragedy than the one recently reported in Surat. In Surat about 23 casualties have been reported out of total 50 students. In...

Indore has state's longest living, soon to be India and world's longest living bear

Indore city zoo has made a new-record for the state by having the longest living Sloth bear (Melursus ursinus) in the country. If his health continues to be equally well over next month, 35-year-old Chotu is all set to break India’s record  by being the longest living bear in the country under captivity. City zoo will add this feather to cap by having the longest living sloth bear in the country next month as Chotu turns 36 and crosses the last set record by a bear in Bangalore, who passed away just around turning 36. Though Chotu is living on ‘bonus period’ as usual lifespan of a sloth bear is 20 years. Lifespan further increases by a couple of years in captivity and rarely crosses 30s. In the world, there are other species of bears like polar bear and black bear that have reported to live as long as 39 years. However, there are no records of sloth bears living so long and healthy. The possible reason could be that sloth bears are generally found in India. Th...

Indore Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Saffron's new shade with Shankar Lalwani, supported by Tai and Bhai

Modi’s tsunami won over the long-held citadel of Indore for BJP, offering a new leadership after decades to first-timer Shankar Lalwani. Discussing record-breaking win of BJP, Lalwani said, “This win is a win of Indore’s voters, who supported development and recognised the work of PM Narendra Modi.” He quoted previous contribution of BJP leaders. “15 years of development headed by former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, further work done for development of the city by our 8 times elected member of parliament Sumitra Tai are important factors due to which, we had the record-breaking win,” Lalw...

The Never Ending Battle... Happy marriage, incomplete without a fight.

Despite all the wonderful and inspiring videos about accepting daughter-in-law as a daughter, the number of cases of divorce mostly reasoned to disputes with in-laws continues to rise in India. Okay, admitted, if compared to other countries, India is low on divorce rates, but it is higher on separation and bad marriage rates. Whether we pick up cases of suicides that are reported everywhere in country due to heart-breaks or bad marriages, or unreported marital violence in the country. Additionally, in a country with major rural areas, most people do not understand marital rape till date. No, it is not a pessimistic view, just the acceptance of true scenario of our country today. When looked analytically, most people even if in a good functional relationship do not marry their partner. Yes, mostly men. What could be a possible reason… well, in private interviews and on the condition of confidentiality, some said, “If I truly love a girl, how I can bring her into a scenario that...

Reviving memories of 90s, peek into past... Nostalgia

It is incredible how much we grew in a decade and amazing how much faster technology has grown in the last two decades. In figures, 2019 so going back to 1999.  Times were clearly simpler, less advanced and limited in some ways. We could not click a button and discover thousands and lacks of articles and details about every tiny subject from entertaining movies to scientific theories.  Yes, it took a trip to the library and an hour of browsing to dig out a topic. It was a time when most would wonder how others know about the latest hip songs, discoveries, secret affairs and more. It seemed impossible to be a part of every grapevine, since they were never limited to one. There were idle times, when even kids could wander about and find faces in clouds. Yes, it was a limited time.  A time when even entertainment on television was limited. A time when only imagination did not know bounds. When one had to wait to hear the latest songs... A time when dinners at...

Faltering service, rude personnel, what's up ibus i-smart cards, AiCTSL?

i-Smart cards, which had received quick acceptance from i-bus commuters, are now suffering because of its faltering services. Further non-assisting and careless attitude of personnel leads to many commuters breaking the rules and long queues. Commuters are signing in with their i-smart card from a station, checking their balance and confirmation of opening doors with green light. However, when they get out at another station, the reading software does not accept their card and flashed ‘Invalid Ticket’. Waiting desperately in long queues due to ‘out of service’ reading machines, commuters are forced to wait for an assisting personnel to help them. However, most assisting personnel are too ignorant of commuters’ problem and refuse to explain the problem. Instead of explaining and accepting the fault, the assisting personnel are often rude and non-complaint with the promised service. Such incidents though claimed as rare by AiCTSL (Atal Indore City Transport Service Limited) are...

Obsession with Perfection

It is this obsession with perfection that is leading us into a world of copy-paste art, make-up faces, malnutrition, weakened souls and what not. On this mother’s day, I doubt if anyone would prefer to have a model-like mother and only then find her beautiful. In fact, I doubt if one could see the beauty of mother behind all the make-up, self-obsessed routines and crazy paranoia about looks. For all those who have been lucky enough to spend time a decade back in rural areas of the country, they must have noticed simple forms of art. From colourful rangolis, traditional wall-art to simply and comfortably dressed women and hard-working men, they were common sites. I cannot say how long we will be able to hold back this joy even in rural areas. We are having perfection today, but lacking love and more. When we talk about art, every art school is busy teaching tracing and perfecting a painting as a photograph. Why not just click and print a photograph instead? Not that even...
