With a message to promote peace, harmony and patriotism, 50-year-old shopkeeper Nagraj Gowda has been pedalling from December 3, 2017. Hailing from Hassan, Karnataka, he left his well-settled life to follow his calling.
“I started my journey from Mumbai, covered Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and now I am finally in the heart of the country Madhya Pradesh,” Gowda said. He cycles 80 to 90 kilometres every day.
“I stay in temples, Gurudwara, Ashrams and every place I get, generous dhaba’s often feed me and feel connected to my thoughts for our country and world peace,” Gowda said. He has always been a nationalist and that’s his calling.
“I am inspired by every Indian, our culture and ideologies of promoting peace in the world,” Gowda said. He has printed out a collage of some inspiring leaders of India from Mahatma Gandhi to Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi.
“It is not just about political leaders, I look up to Mother Teresa, Osho, Amitabh Bachhan and more,” Gowda said. He labels this old collection of photographs as his little ‘exhibition’ of country’s great women and men.
“I experience goodness of India every day, in the way people show kindness to me,” Gowda said. Without a job and money, he has survived for a year and half comfortably.
“I am healthy and always get my meals, thanks to the kindness of India and I doubt if this was possible anywhere else,” Gowda said. He was inspired to take up this cycle rally from Salem Nanjundaiah Subba Rao.
Rao is a 90-year-old social worker known for surrender of more than 600 dreaded dacoits of the Chambal Ghati. He had organised a cycle rally covering 47 villages of Chambal Valley in 1981 to identify problems at micro level and their solutions were then found at administrative level.
“Following his example and lessons I learned from him, I am on this rally covering our entire country,” Gowda said. He met Chief Minister Kamal Nath during his visit to Bhopal a couple of days back and added a picture of him to his collage as well.
