A group of dancers led by Guru Ashish Pillai from Indore performed at 14th Ramamoorthy Bhagavathar Festival held at Civil Services club of Singapore.
City artist gave vibrant Bharatnatyam and Kathak performances of Indian classical dance along with various stalwarts from India and south east Asia at Singapore organised by Nrityadham Group in memory of legendary musician late Ramamoorthy Bhagwathar .
After representing the country with their tuned in performances, the performers received various recognitions in the grand festival.
Pillai was awarded with Suryaprabha Vibhuti award for young guru in the field of classical dance by the legendary danseuse Padmabhushan Dr Saroja Vaidyanathan.
He performed Kathak dance showcasing his ‘abhinay’ (acting and dramatic) skills through a beautiful thumri. Further, he followed it up with fast paced ‘tarana’ in ‘raag kedar’ and ‘taal teen tal’.
Purva Pande (Bharatnatyam), Samridhi Jaiswal (Bharatnatyam), Gaurangi Joshi (Kathak), Shrishthi Bajpai (Kathak) was awarded with Surya Prabha Utkrisht samman for Young achievers.
Akansha Dixit (Kathak) and Khushi Iyer (Bharatnatyam) were awarded with Vaibhav award for emerging dancers.
Pillai also took a Kathak workshop for kids on the lines of festival where he taught young dancers nuances of Kathak dance. The event saw people from Indian diaspora and various Singaporeans as audience, who responded with laud cheers and amazement at colourful culture of our country.
