Madhya Pradesh known for its largest forest cover is on fire as over 77,000 square kilometre forest area has already burned out in over 28,000 incidents of raging fires. The country reported 43,031 alerts during the corresponding fortnight in 2020, according to GFW data using Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) alerts. MP saw the highest number of VIIRS alerts (22,797) during the fortnight, in line with the trend of the past five years. But this is also double the 11,609 alerts that the state recorded in April 1-14, 2020. Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the new assessment and evaluation practices for the new academic session 2021-22. The evaluation criteria, released on April 22, details further changes in accordance to the board’s move to Competency Based Education or CBE. While the same has been in implementation since 2019, the board has been gradually shifting the focus and making smaller changes to make the transition gradual. In the letter written to the heads of all CBSE affiliated schools, the board has laid out the changes for the new academic session. Going a step forth from this year, the board would now be introducing Competency Based Questions (CBQ). This would be about 30% for Classes IX & X and 20% for Classes XI & XII. A survey states that nearly 56 per cent students in India now feel comfortable with the online learning model, but most primary and middle school students in Indore feel otherwise. The findings of survey by Brainly, an online learning platform, said, “With the recent surge in Covid-19 cases, most of the students were apprehensive about going back to school at present.” It added that about 56 per cent of students preferred continuing with online learning in the current scenario. “More than half of the surveyed students preferred the blended learning model over others,” the survey said.
