Mahavir Janma Kalyanak or Mahavir Jayanti is one of the most important religious festivals in Jainism. This year, Mahavir Jayanti will be observed on April 25th 2021.
According to Jain texts, Mahavir was born on the thirteenth day of the bright half of the moon in the month of Chaitra in the year 599 BCE (Chaitra Sud 13) which in the Gregorian calendars falls on March or April.
Mahavir Jayanti is widely celebrated in places all over the world wherever there is a presence of the Jain community. This year, due to corona second wave, the community has been notified of limiting celebrations in confines of their home.
This is the second year due to the Corona period that when the procession from the glass temple will not come out according to the tradition of 100 years. Digambar Jain Samaj President Narendra Veda and spokesman Manish Ajmera said, “Due to the crisis of global epidemic corona, the community has decided to cancel the traditional celebrations.” The community will follow Lord Mahavir's principle of "live and let live" by serving mankind.
