As corona pandemic takes over lives every day, the situation becomes grim, townships are preparing to arm themselves for basic covid-19 care. These mini-towns have hundreds of residents and many of them are seniors and prone to infections.
In an attempt to become self-reliant or ‘Atmanirbhar’ for at least basic covid care, these townships are forming associations for medicines. They are arranging for doctor on call and a nurse to be available if needed on call.
Further, residents have collectively bought an oxygen machine that is used in case of emergencies. The idea has just begun citing the lack of available beds and healthcare facilities in the city.
Townships are also working on creating an association for sample collection, testing and other care facilities to be provided in homes.
The first township that has begun this initiative is Treasure Town. The township residents came together and took an initiative to provide basic possible healthcare facility for everyone.
Treasure Town: The first to bring in Oxygen machine collectively
“The idea behind the brief lockdown was that it will control the cases and give time to boost the health infrastructure, but the situation has gone from bad to worse. Hence, it is important that we work at least on ensuring facility for residents here, so that they can be armed to recover from this deadly virus,” a representative from Treasure Town Aayush Zanzari said.
He added that after successfully tackling the first wave of COVID-19, the country's morale was high but this storm has shaken the country. “To tackle this wave of COVID, we held meetings with experts and residents, so we decided to collectively provide some basic care facility for everyone in their homes,” Zanzari said.
He added that first the residents collectively bought the oxygen machine. “Further, arrangements for doctor on call, nurses if and when required, medicines, etc. are being worked upon for everyone,” Zanzari said.
Further, the township is working on providing other facilities and helping each other in these tough times.
Shalimar Township: in process of creating emergency backups
“This is the time when COVID-19 is testing our patience and capacity to bear pain. Many of our loved ones left us untimely,” Arshi Amir, coordinator from Shalimar Township said. She added that the confidence earned from tackling first corona wave is blown away by second.
“Last time, we worked on ensuring various protocols to ensure that the virus does not spread its tentacles here, but this time, it has come in like blazing fire,” Arshi said. She added that this time many households are reporting positive cases of covid-19.
“We all are losing our loved ones and to ensure the least possible casualties, we are in talks with the entire society members on creating an emergency covid-19 care back up for everyone in the township,” Arshi said.
She added that the township is considering making an emergency ICU ward and providing at least all the necessary facilities for the residents. “We are working on providing emergency oxygen backup, arranging medicines general and special, contacting a doctor and nurse for emergency visits, and ensuring all the possible protocols to control the spread of virus,” Arshi said.

“The country is reporting over 3 lakh cases every day and of course, every other household is suffering from this second wave infection now,” representative from Horizon Oasis Green Mahalaxmi Nagar Indore Mahendra Mathur said.
He added that arrangement of facilities is a basic need considering that it is tough to find beds even in case of emergencies in hospitals right now. “We cannot instantly get beds in hospitals even if someone is in critical condition right now, so we are working on providing necessary facilities to our residents in their homes before they can secure a bed in hospital,” Mathur said.
He added that no setup would be formed in the township, rather facilities would be arranged. “From collecting samples from home to providing medicines and oxygen to patients of covid-19, we will work upon all the aspects,” Mathur said.
The township has already collectively placed an order for oxygen machine and will be receiving the same in a day’s time.
