International Day of Dance celebrated by sharing & posting dance videos due to covid-19 outbreak in India

The dance seekers of the city have not met each other for the past several days. There have been neither the usual cultural events nor dance classes are being held as they did before coronavirus outbreak.

International Dance Day was celebrated on Thursday. Due to Corona, as all the events are happening online, the dance day was also celebrated online.

International Dance Day is a global celebration of dance, created by the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute, the main partner for the performing arts of UNESCO. The event takes place every year on April 29.

Some events have also been going for throughout the week to celebrate the day. Some dance gurus of the city shared important aspects of perfecting and practising dance in their virtual meet or social media videos.

In which dance teacher Ragini Makkhar shared videos of her disciples and supported them in their aspirations of becoming a professional dancer. A classical dancer Pranita Shukre also shared her video and expressed gratitude towards her teacher.

Makkhar said that sharing the videos of the students keeps their enthusiasm. “When everyone appreciates their dance, they get a boost in their confidence and it can be seen in their form, posture and style,” she said. She added that motivation is much-needed for artists especially during this tough time.

Bharat Natyam dancer Aruksha Naik has also put a video on the internet media doing Bharat Natyam. She wants to bring people's love to Bharatnatyam with her dance.

Dancer Archana Baneerjee said that all the people associated with our dance want to bring positive energy around their dance. So we are wishing everyone a happy dance day through their dance on the internet media. “Indian classical dance is our heritage, which is our responsibility to preserve it,” she said.

Some dance contests were also organised including the one by Akhil Natrajam Aantar Sanskrutik Sangh, Member of the International Dance Council Cid, Paris-France.

Many western dancers also celebrated the day and posted their videos on social media. Nainee Saxena, a belly dancer, also posted her video that gathered appreciation from her 3 lakh followers.

“I am a non-trained dancer. I am a self-learned belly dancer and have performed at various platforms,” she said.

Before Pentecost, Christian community helps underprivileged families with ration

Prior to Pentecost, Christian community is following the lessons taught by Jesus Christ and helping those in need. In their drive to help underprivileged families, Christian volunteers forming a group are providing ration packets to them. Christian holiday of Pentecost, which is celebrated the 49th day (the seventh Sunday) after Easter Sunday, will be celebrated on May 31 this year. School Education Department issued an advisory to all the school heads and officers regarding precautions to be taken against the deadly novel coronavirus to prevent the spread of infection among school children.
