Meet Indore’s ‘Pedalling Picasso’: The Cyclist Mapping GPS Art to Promote a Green Holi 2026
By TINA KHATRI | INDORE | March 2, 2026
Bringing a new wave of cleanliness to Holi celebrations, a group of cyclists in Indore is set to lead a ride promoting clean air and responsible festivities, reinforcing the city’s status as India’s cleanest urban center.
The ‘Pedalling Picasso’: Amol Wadhwani
At the forefront is 29-year-old Amol Wadhwani, a long-distance cyclist and creator of GPS art. In 2022, he traced the outline of India by cycling 28.1 kilometres across Indore, navigating road closures and crowded urban obstacles to create a digital masterpiece.
“GPS drawing follows a pre-planned route to create a large-scale image. The GPX data recorded during the ride is visualised as a line on the map.”
— Amol Wadhwani
From forming the shape of a bicycle on World Bicycle Day to mapping a vegetarian elephant, Wadhwani turns cycling into a medium for art and civic engagement. He even replaced his traditional wedding baraat with a bicycle procession of 80 guests to promote sustainability.
🎨 Join the Movement: How to Make GPS Art
Planning to join the Eco-Holi rally? Here is how to track your art:
Use a map app to sketch a simple shape (like a heart or leaf) over Indore's streets.
Turn on Strava or any GPS tracker. Follow your pre-planned path exactly.
Export the GPX data and see your ride transformed into a drawing!
Gearing Up for Holi 2026
As Holi approaches, the cycling community is leading rallies to promote eco-friendly practices. The message is clear: festivals can be celebrated joyfully without generating waste or pollution.
By transforming cycling into a platform for creativity and environmental awareness, Wadhwani inspires Indore residents to celebrate responsibly while keeping the city green.
