Men Celebrate Women's Day by Solar Cooking at Jimmy McGilligan Centre

By TINA KHATRI | SANAWADIYA | March 8, 2026

Following a 15-year tradition, the Jimmy and Janak McGilligan Foundation celebrated International Women's Day today at the Jimmy McGilligan Centre in Sanawadiya village. The event combined spiritual reflection with a practical demonstration of gender equality through sustainable technology.

Theme: "Give to Gain"

The program opened with a Baha'i prayer by Janak Didi, who also applied home-grown Sindoor Tilak to all present. Veteran Trustee Mr. Virendra Goyal welcomed the gathering, emphasizing that women's sacrifice and understanding sustain the world.

Padmashree Janak Palta McGilligan highlighted the 2026 UN theme, "Give to Gain," emphasizing mutual cooperation. She noted that while equality is guaranteed by the Indian Constitution, many women remain deprived due to caste and education. She also raised concerns about modern challenges facing young girls, calling for a return to morals and mutual goodwill.

“According to Baha'i writings, humanity is like a bird with two wings: women and men. Unless both wings are equally developed, the bird cannot fly.”

The Solar Kitchen: Men at the Helm

In a symbolic act of equality, men took full responsibility for cooking and serving. Using solar cookers, a team of specialists and volunteers prepared a nutritious community lunch.
