Engineer’s Day Special
Celebrate creativity, curiosity, and the power of engineering!
TINA KHATRI
Welcome to a day filled with fun, food, and flight—all inspired by the amazing world of engineers! In India, Engineer’s Day is celebrated every year on September 15th to honour Sir M. Visvesvaraya, one of the country’s greatest engineers.
Today, you’ll make an Engineer’s Food sandwich that looks like a brainy face, fold a simple paper plane to soar through the skies, and solve a playful poem called The Engineer’s Mind.
You’ll also get to test your smarts with our Brainy Engineers trivia, exploring how engineers use tools, math, and creativity to solve real-world problems—just like Visvesvaraya!
So grab your bread, peas, and paper, and let’s build something incredible. Ready to invent, create, and fly? Let’s go!

Engineer’s Food
Ingredients
1 slice of bread
2 tbsp boiled peas (lightly mashed or whole)
1 tbsp cream cheese, hummus, or peanut butter (as "glue")
2 cucumber or cheese slices (for glasses)
2 olive slices, raisins, or blueberries (eyes)
1 cherry tomato or baby carrot round (nose)
1 red pepper strip or carrot stick (mouth)
Shredded carrot or lettuce (hair)
Simple Steps:
1. Spread the Base: Spread cream cheese (or hummus/peanut butter) on the slice of bread.
2. Add the Brain (Boiled Peas): Place the peas on the top half of the bread like a "brain". Let them be messy — it's fun!
3. Make the Face:
a. Place two cucumber or cheese circles as glasses.
b. Put olives or raisins inside for eyes.
c. Add a cherry tomato or baby carrot slice as a nose.
d. Use a red pepper or carrot stick for a smile or silly mouth.
4. Add Hair (Optional):
Use shredded carrots, lettuce, or cucumber strips around the top for goofy hair.

Simple Paper Plane
1. Fold the paper in half lengthwise, then unfold it.
2. Fold the top two corners down to meet the centre crease.
3. Fold the new top edges down again to the centre line.
4. Fold the paper in half along the original centre crease.
5. Fold each side down to form the wings, lining up with the bottom edge.
