NRIs contribute $9 bn to Indian economy; integrate & create their mark
Indians have made their place in the world with their ability to retain their ethics and integrate with cultures, and NRIs send 9 billion dollar a year back to India as well. Stating this, Deputy Mayor of London for Business Rajesh Agrawal cited strength of India and Indians across the world.
“India is a great success story for the world, as it is the fastest or at least second fastest growing economy since the last couple of years,” Agrawal said. He sees huge transformation in the country where cities are growing faster than ever.
Discussing how he sees India transforming and quoting the importance of Tier-II cities especially Indore, Agrawal said, “Finance and IT are big employment sectors in India now and in fact, India leads in these sectors.”
He added that NRIs are major contributors for India too. “NRIs are living bridge between India and the world, who first contribute financially by sending money to their families here and create their mark as Indians across the world,” Agrawal said.
Indore, Pune, Gurgaon: big drivers of India’s growth
Agrawal: About 20 years ago, India was big and growing only in 2 to 3 major cities like Mumbai and Delhi. This has seen a huge transformation. Now, India has a very strong growth pattern. The emergence of Tier-II and Tier-III cities has channelized the growth.
Tier-II and Tier-III are strong growth focal points in the country now. We can see the way these cities have flourished. Gurgaon, Pune, and Indore are big drivers of growth for India today.
India’s Growth
Agrawal: India has seen huge transformation in terms of business, markets and GDP (gross domestic product). GDP is much lower in Europe. There are many challenges, which are actually opportunities for the country. Covid-19 outbreak was a major challenge across the world. India has transformed in that time and has the best digital payment system now.
Digital payments is an achievement. Changes can be seen in India because of it, but India can do more.
India can grow in…
Agrawal: India is a knowledge based economy. Considering the situation of China today, India has a major opportunity in manufacturing sector. India’s creative industry with entertainment industry has recently seen a big boost. It’s time to focus on manufacturing products and hardware too.
Another major opportunity for India especially Indore and Madhya Pradesh is food-technology. Western world is also moving towards a plant based diet. Hence, that raises the demand for food tech. Indore and MP have a big opportunity here, as for me Indore remains as the world vegetarian food capital.
