Christmas though traditionally celebrated by Christian community members, in Indore are celebrated communally by other religious groups especially Hindus as well. While some families will also participate in traditional church celebrations starting midnight from December 24, most families have installed Christmas trees at home.
Celebrating the festival, present giving is an important tradition restored this year in start-ups, offices, homes and among friends. “It’s Christmas time and we live in a country, where diversity is celebrated, so it is normal for us to celebrate Christmas just as we celebrate Diwali,” Rakshita Mehta, an entrepreneur, said.
She added that Christmas means a day to spend time with her family and make everyone happy. “I have decided to add something personal to presents this year with hand-made cards and quotes,” Rakshita said. She has prepared a combo of cards and cakes as Christmas presents for her family.
“When we are given something we love, especially food in Indore, it’s always the perfect gift,” Rakshita said.

“It’s first Christmas for Inaaya and we could not have asked for a better gift,” said Manvi and Ankur Jaisinghani. The new parents are planning a grand photo-shoot and party for the little one.
“Christmas is not about just catholic celebrations anymore, it’s about celebrating a beautiful day in pleasant winters, so we will pick out special themed gifts for our friends and family members,” Jaisinghani said. They are picking out coffee, hot-chocolate and other combos, as they are usually loved in this season.

“As a single mother and entrepreneur, I know how every moment we need to remind ourselves of good things and good times, and Christmas is one such essential way,” Seema Soni, an entrepreneur, said. She added that beauty and self-care are often of prime importance.
“It’s not just about caring for our looks, but also, how we create relations where presents and festivals like Christmas help a lot,” Seema said. She has planned surprise gift cards and self-care kit for her friends.
“I am planning to make a difference in the lives of women and recognise their strength with red-themed gifts, which represent power and is the prime colour of Christmas celebrations,” Seema said.

Making sandwich for loved ones
When it comes to the little one, Christmas and Santa Claus is more fascinating. Excited to receive their presents, children are not far behind in picking out a present for elders in the family.
“I will be making the best sandwich for my uncle and my dad on Christmas… all by myself!” Swara Niley, a student, said.

Before Pentecost, Christian community helps underprivileged families with ration

Prior to Pentecost, Christian community is following the lessons taught by Jesus Christ and helping those in need. In their drive to help underprivileged families, Christian volunteers forming a group are providing ration packets to them. Christian holiday of Pentecost, which is celebrated the 49th day (the seventh Sunday) after Easter Sunday, will be celebrated on May 31 this year. The holiday commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ. School Education Department issued an advisory to all the school heads and officers regarding precautions to be taken against the deadly novel coronavirus to prevent the spread of infection among school children.
