National Defence Academy: NDA applications open till June 29, Here are essential details on preparation & clearing the exam to join Indian armed forces
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has invited applications for admission to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the NDA (National Defence Academy). Applications are accepted till June 29. Interested candidates can apply through official website - www.upsc.gov.in.
The boys who are now in 12th class or passed 12th class and born between 02 Jan 2003 and 1st Jan 2006 are eligible to appear in NDA exam. The exam will be held on 5 Sept 2021. Though the last date is 29 June 2021, it is generally advised to apply latest by June 25 to avoid last minute issues.
NDA exam gives chance to join as cadet of Air force, Indian Army and Naval Academy. The NDA is oldest tri service institution which is ranked 8th in the world in terms of education, training and infrastructure. Other than NDA a twelfth pass boy has options of Navy B-Tech entry and Army Technical Entry Scheme to become a valiant officer.
After three years of rigorous academically and physical training in NDA the cadet is sent to Indian Military Academy, Air Force Academy or Indian Naval Academy for pre-commission training while the cadets who join Indian Naval Academy undergo four years training in INA.
After four years of training, the expenditure of which is borne by the government the cadet is commissioned as Group A officer in Ministry of Defence.
Results expected by mid Nov
Colonel (retd) Nikhil Diwanji who imparts training for NDA exam and SSB interview emphasized that aspirants and parents must read in detail the notification which gives in detail syllabus, medical and physical criteria before applying.
“The result is likely to be declared by mid Nov and SSB interview in many batches will be conducted at designated centres mid Dec onwards,” Diwanji said. He suggested that aspirants who are now promoted to 11th class must apply for NDA in June 2022 for which the exam will be conducted on 4th Sept 2022.
Exam structure
The exam has two papers in three parts. The first is maths of 300 marks which is f 11th and 12th class level. The second paper comprises of 200 marks of English which requires excellent reading hobbies and habits and GK which essentially needs in depth studies and writing notes. Normally students with PCM have better chances to clear the exam, said Diwanji.
“The 12th appearing boys after NDA exam must concentrate and study for JEE ( Mains ) because the direct SSB interview for Army Technical Entry Scheme and Navy 10+2 B Tech entry is based on scores in JEE mains,” said Diwanji.
Last time the cut off for Navy B Tech SSB was 93 percentiles, so aspirants must aim for much higher percentiles.
