Indore: helping each other in tough times, Ration Distribution drive by Christian Volunteers Group

Prior to Pentecost, Christian community is following the lessons taught by Jesus Christ and helping those in need. In their drive to help underprivileged families, Christian volunteers forming a group are providing ration packets to them.

Christian holiday of Pentecost, which is celebrated the 49th day (the seventh Sunday) after Easter Sunday, will be celebrated on May 23 this year.

The holiday commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ. Under the drive, ration packets are given to 165 families on a regular basis.

“Christ was the ultimate social worker. Not only could he find housing for people, or give them free food,” Sushil Sisodia, a volunteer said.

Christian Volunteers Group is a social group formed in association with members of various churches in the Christian community. For the last 2 years, following the ideals and teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ and doing various activities on contributing to the society by arranging donations.

Citing Bible verses Matthew 25: 35- 36, a volunteer Narendra Rathore said, “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”

He added that many people are struggling for basic needs as coronavirus affects every other family now. “Many members in our group are also in quarantine and suffering from corona, but with little effort, we are able to arrange and distribute meal packs among underprivileged,” another volunteer Jaywant Daniel said.

The volunteers usually prepare khichdi and distributes packets of the same.

“Till now, we are able to provide meals for 165 families, which has helped them in managing other tasks,” Vikas Shrimali, another volunteer, said.

Other volunteers include Anjali Philip, Praful Joseph, Ashish Mubarak, Sudhir Singh, Amita Joseph, Wilson Gadkar, Dr Ashish Satyajit and others.
