Indore: Corona tints festivals of Holika Dahan, Holi, Shab-e-Barat & Palm Sunday. Two day lockdown possible this weekend in Madhya Pradesh

With Sunday lockdown enforced in the city to control the spread of coronavirus, various festive celebrations coming Sunday on March 28 are in question.

On Sunday not just one, but there are three major festivals that will be celebrated by different communities in Indore. Holika Dahan, Shab-e-Barat and Palm Sunday will be celebrated by communities in the city.

People of the concerned communities are in a dilemma about how the festival will be celebrated during lockdown.

Catholic community has preponed celebrations of Palm Sunday by a day. The community will celebrate on Saturday.

However, the question rises on how people will burn the bonfire of Holika Dahan on the streets. Further, how will the followers of Islam reach the tomb of ancestors to read the Fateha on Shab-e-Barat.

Community heads and spokespersons are unsure of the possible solutions and state that they will take a decision after discussing this with the administration.

Holika Dahan: cow dung bonfire to save trees

Various Hindu community heads and social organisations have prepared cow dung cakes for Holika Dahan to ensure that trees are not cut for Holika Dahan. While there is still excitement among people to celebrate the fest, group celebrations are less likely this year.

Many people are also considering preparing a symbolic small Holika at home to avoid the spread of coronavirus. In view of Corona's increasing infection, plans are being considered for a two-day lockdown in the city on Holi and Dhulendi. This proposal will also be discussed and decided in the District Disaster Management Group meeting.

Shab-e-Barat: Muslim community awaiting decision

Shahar Qazi Dr Ishrat Ali said, “The situation of lockdown and possibility of celebrations will be estimated only if the number of patients reduce in this week.” The administration will take the final decision based on the same.

On Shab-e-Barat, the community members are planning to go to the tombs of their ancestors and read the Fateha in the cemeteries, as of now.

Christian community: worship in churches on Saturday evening.

Bishop Chacko said, “Palm Sunday is to be celebrated on the Sunday before Good Friday, but there will be lockdown on that day.” In such a situation, Palm Sunday will be held in the churches a day before Saturday, he added.

Keeping in mind all the precautions of Covid-19, the prayers of Palm Sunday will be offered on the evening of on Saturday. In the Red Church at 05:30 pm and at 07:00 pm, the blessing of the palm branches and the worship of Palm Sunday will be performed. Other churches of the city will perform this service in the evening as per their convenience.
