Macaws and amazon parrots gain popularity in Indore, six more to come to the state’s first bird aviary in Indore zoo
Macaws and amazon parrots gain popularity in Indore, six more to come to the state’s first bird aviary in city zoo soon.
Right now there are only two Macaw parrots, six more will be brought by Kamla Nehru Prani Sangralaya soon. Further, along with them Golden Frozen African Gray Parrot along with many new exotic birds will be arriving to be a part of bird aviary soon in Indore.
The bird aviary which was inaugurated recently has more than 350 exotic birds at the moment. Preparations are on in the city to welcome new guests.
“Currently, we have two Macaw parrots, but they draw the most attention, we have called for six more to be added to the bird aviary,” Dr Uttam Yadav, city zoo in-charge, said.
Along with these, Lady Gouldian finches, african gray parrot, amazon parrot and some other exotic birds will also be brought to the zoo. The birds are expected to arrive after a week.
There are more than 30 species of birds. The smallest among them zebra finch (length 10 – 11 cm) to the grandiose macaws will be a part of bird aviary.
“Bird aviary is first such project in the state, where we are planning to create an environment, where people can not only observe but also interact with birds,” Yadav, city zoo in-charge, said.
He added that bird interactions are often difficult in city zoo in India. “We are equipped with good environment that helps birds stay healthy, so we want to provide more by giving them a space to interact with people,” Yadav said.
To ensure that birds do not fear human, the birds will be tamed by experts, shared Nand Kishore, bird expert at city zoo, who is training and handling the bird aviary.
