Confusion struck in forest department as officials were of different opinion on tree mensuration. A truck from Uttar Pradesh (UP) landed in Indore on Tuesday loaded with wood.
However, the loaded wood was measured in tonnes as per UP’s forest department. In Madhya Pradesh (MP), it is a general predicament and rule to measure trees in cubic metres, i.e. calculating length, breath and volume.
Defending his front, forest ranger Suresh Barole explained, “We do generally measure trees in cubic metres, but when the wood has already been received and sealed by UP department measured in tonnes, then we accepted the same.” He added that physically re-measuring of wood from the truck would require unloading, measurement and then loading.
“There is no such rule that I know of, where we have to re-measure an entire truck load before handing over the order to businessperson,” Barole said.
