This year, due to covid-19 outspread, Paryushana which is the most important annual holy event for Jains, will be celebrated at home only. The festival began with Kshamavani fest on Sunday.
As shared by community representative Manish Ajmera, “Kshamavani
or "Forgiveness Day" is a day of forgiving and seeking forgiveness
for the followers of Jainism.”
Digambar Jain community celebrated it on the first day of
Ashvin Krishna month of the lunar-based Jain calendar. Shwetambar Jain
community will celebrate it on Samvatsari, the last day of the annual
Paryushana festival.
“Paryushana festival will end on September 1 and further,
there will be a last day of celebrations on September 3,” Ajmera said.
Large events like bhajans, kirtans, rituals, cultural events
and competitions etc. have been postponed due to the Corona epidemic.
