Mahesh Navami: the day of lord Shiva celebrated by Maheshwari community online

Mahesh Navami that is annually celebrated by Maheshwari community with grand procession in the city was celebrated in individual homes and an online discourse on Sunday.

Mahesh Navami is an auspicious Hindu festival that is celebrated by the devotees of Lord Shiva-- also known as Lord ‘Mahesh’.

The festival is primarily celebrated by people of Maheshwari community, which is believed to be formed on Mahesh Navami.

“We celebrate the day on the ninth day of Shukla Paksha (Waxing moon) in the month of Jyeshta according to the Hindu calendar and this year, the day was on Sunday,” chairman of Maheshwari Mahasabha Shyam Soni said.

Under the aegis of the All India Maheshwari Mahasabha, Women's Organisation and National Youth Organisation, religious speaker Vijay Shankar Mehta spoke about Lord Shiva on Sunday evening. The discourse was attended by Maheshwari community, which was broadcasted live on Sanskar TV.

National President of Maheshwari Youth organisation Rajkumar Kalia said, “This year unlike mass four-day celebrations, we had mini-celebrations at home with worship in morning.”

Following the worship and rituals at home till 11 am, the entire community recited Mahesh Vandana from 11:15 am. “This is the first time, despite being socially distant, the entire community all over India together recited vandana and celebrated the auspicious day,” Ramswaroop Mundra, media in-charge of the Mahasabha said.

Pankaj Totla coordinated a local event for youth on an event application.

Many other social media events were organised throughout the day by the community.

Before Pentecost, Christian community helps underprivileged families with ration

Prior to Pentecost, Christian community is following the lessons taught by Jesus Christ and helping those in need. In their drive to help underprivileged families, Christian volunteers forming a group are providing ration packets to them. Christian holiday of Pentecost, which is celebrated the 49th day (the seventh Sunday) after Easter Sunday, will be celebrated on May 31 this year. School Education Department issued an advisory to all the school heads and officers regarding precautions to be taken against the deadly novel coronavirus to prevent the spread of infection among school children.
