Rose Exhibition: Over 3,000 varieties including Hybrid tea, Floribunda, polyantha & miniature; Competition for garden & students
A rose signifies many emotions and meanings and in the
upcoming annual Rose exhibition and competition, Indoreans can witness over
3,000 such varieties of the popular flower.
The two-day 33rd Annual Rose Exhibition will be organised on
Feb 1 and 2 at Yashwant club. The exhibition has been jointly organised by Malwa
Rose Society, the Department of Horticulture and the Indore Municipal
Corporation (IMC).
The exhibition will showcase roses from Indore, Pune,
Bhopal, Ujjain, Ratlam, Dewas, Pithampur and nearby villages.
The exhibition will be inaugurated on 4 pm on February 1.
The exhibition will remain open till 10 pm on Feb 1. On Feb 2, rose lovers can
visit the exhibition from 9 am to 10 pm.
In the exhibition, along with various shades of roses,
special rose species like Hybrid Tea, Floribunda, polyantha and a number of new
varieties in addition to roses hundreds of miniature variety will be showcased.
Rose Garden Competition
A competition for rose gardens has also been organised. The
competition is divided into three categories of having minimum 50 and maximum
150 rose plants along with small, medium and terrace-based gardens with minimum
25 plants. This year, the plants in pots have also been accepted and also will
be a part of exhibit.
The winners of the rose garden competition will be announced
on Feb 2 at 5 pm.
Chairman of the rose society Dr Dev Patodi said, “So far, we
have received more than 100 entries.”
Deputy director of horticulture department TC Waskle said, “Out
of all the entries, selected 30 entries of individual and institutional gardens
will be visited for final evaluation on January 29-30, which Indore, Dewas,
Pithampur and nearby areas.”
Flower arrangement and painting competition for school
students
Two competitions for school students will be organised on
Feb 2 during the exhibition from 9:30 am. The first competition is floral
arrangement competition. Students will be required to cut and arrange flowers
forming unique arrangements.
The second is painting competition, wherein students will
paint various roses and rose arrangements using pencil crayons or water
colours. Use of oil and acrylic colours is restricted.
The competition will be organised in the following
categories:
Junior group: classes 1 to 6
Middle group: classes 7 to 9
Senior group: classes 10 to 12
