During the 60-day Mandal Puja at Ayyappa temple, Mahalaxmi Nagar, the 12th day was celebrated specially with Panthrandu Vilakku Puja on Thursday. The 12th day is essential to the entire puja, as it denotes special meanings.
‘Panthranduvilakku’ means 12 lamps in Malayala is a devotional festival that is dedicated to universal consciousness and permits all people despite of their caste and creed, as shared by temple committee president Sajan Panicker.
The doors opened with Udayasthamana Puja at 6 am. During the day-long celebrations, 16 types of pujas were performed. Out of this 12 pujas were performed in the morning and another 4 in the evening worship.
The evening worship started with Diparadhana, a grand rendition of Bhajan Sandhya by Bhajan Samrat Murali Panicker Mandali, who was specially invited from Kerala. Devotees flocked and sang along with hymns
On this occasion, hundreds of Malayali devotees participated in worship in traditional costumes of Kerala in the temple. The mandala puja will conclude on January 14 on Makarsankranti.
