Over 5,000 Muslim community members fly from Indore to Jeddah for Hajj pilgrimage, but due to shut down of direct connecting flight since last two years, they are facing a struggle. The community members citing more than 5,000 flyers every year, submitted a memorandum to MLA Shankar Lalwani addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi about their problems.
President of MP Muslim Morcha Idris Mansuri said, “With so many people travelling every year for the pilgrimage, it is a major struggle faced by all of them due to shutdown of direct flight.” He explained that pilgrims have to either take a connecting flight via Mumbai or Bhopal.
“The flight from Bhopal costs us Rs 15,000 more than Mumbai connecting flight,” Mansuri said. On the other hand, Mumbai being a centre for many flights has air traffic and further excessive crowd on the airport.
“Thousands of people from Indore are suffering for hours on the crowded airport in Mumbai, because the direct connecting flight was shut down,” Mansuri said.
