The number of dog bite victims continues to grow in Indore, as two little girls suffered injuries and one was admitted in MY hospital due to a dog attack in Ishaq colony, Khajrana area on Friday. A case was registered under section 289 of Indian Penal Code.
Two sisters, 7-year-old Suman and 5-year-old Madhu were playing outside their house, when a couple of stray dogs attacked them. “The dogs attacked the little girls at the signal of Imran Sheikh, a nearby resident, who often petted and feed the stray dogs,” complainant Nilo, wife of Krishan Bhil said.
She noted that Sheikh and his family had previously signaled the dogs to bite the girls, but luckily, girls had escaped. Nilo, originally from Dhar, is caretaker of an apartment and works part-time in construction.
“I was working on-site when my brother Jitendra came running to me and informed me about the serious condition of my daughters, who were saved by nearby residents from dog attack,” Nilo said.
The incident happened at 8:30 am. Suman suffered serious injuries from dog bites, while Madhu suffered injuries as well. Both the girls were rushed to hospital.
Suman is still admitted in the hospital, and her condition is stable. Nilo filed a complained to Khajrana police station and a case was registered against Pravin Bi and her son Imran Sheikh.
The mother and son have been booked under ‘Negligent conduct with respect to animal’. Under the section, whoever knowingly or negligently omits to take such order with any animal in his possession as is sufficient to guard against any probable danger to human life, or any probable danger of grievous hurt from such animal, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to six months, or with fine which may extend to one thousand rupees, or with both.
“There is no arrest yet, but actions will be taken soon,” Khajrana police station TI Preetam Singh Thakur said.
