‘Pravesh’ was no ‘Utsav’ in govt schools, remained closed, DEO clueless

While on paper ‘Pravesh Utsav’ was celebrated to welcome and attract children to government schools, when visited many govt schools were locked and did not open on Monday, as per the order of education department.
Government Middle School and Government Girls School, Vijay Nagar found locked at 1 pm

When enquired, district education officer (DEO) Rajendra Makwani had no idea about the schools being closed.
The schools wore a deserted look with no trace of teachers or students. One could assume that maybe students were out with teachers for the Utsav, if at least the doors of school were unlocked for children.
Among such schools, Government Middle School and Government Girls School, Vijay Nagar was found locked with no trace of school administration in sight at 1 pm.
Many students turned up seeking admission for session 2019-20 and were overjoyed singing ‘School Chalein Hum’. However, they had to return back disheartened, because there was no one available to attend them.
Looking at the deserted buildings, pre-primary and primary children feared the school instead of feeling welcomed. “It looks like a jail and there is nobody here, I will not go to school,” cried 5-year-old Sunnidhi Ghate, who had come to the school seeking admission.
Pravesh Utsav, which aims to make the school more welcoming and increase the number of enrolling students, was taken as a celebratory day off by teachers and administrators of the school.
DEO unaware about closed schools!
What are the school timings for government schools today and this session?
DEO: All the govt schools will be starting at 10:30 am and closing at 5 pm.
Was Pravesh Utsav celebrated in schools all over the city? Have you received the report?
DEO: Since the directions have been given, the utsav was celebrated in all the schools on Monday morning.
There are some schools in the city that are locked and closed at 1 pm. Do you know why?
DEO: No, no school is locked or closed. They are supposed to be running till 5 pm.
Is it possible that school opened in the morning shift?
DEO: Maybe some schools changed their shift timings.
