Leopard Attacks Trigger Panic in Sanwer and Mhow Regions

Forest Department on High Alert Following Dual Attacks in 24 Hours

By Tina Khatri | April 3, 2026

Indore/Mhow: Fear has gripped the rural belts of Indore district after two separate leopard attacks on farmers occurred within a span of just 24 hours, prompting heightened vigilance and emergency safety measures.

Incident 1: Sanwer

Location: Sullakhedi Village

Victim: Arjun, s/o Mangilal

Attacked at 9:00 AM Friday while working in fields. Sustained deep lacerations to head and jaw. Currently stable at M.Y. Hospital.

Incident 2: Mhow

Location: Damali (Kushalgarh)

Victim: Arjun (50), s/o Dariya

Attacked Thursday evening while grazing cattle. Fought back with a stick to chase the predator away. Received immediate aid.

Response and Medical Status

In the Sanwer case, forest officials confirmed the presence of a leopard via fresh pugmarks. At M.Y. Hospital, medical examinations for the victim ruled out internal damage, though he remains on a strict Anti-Rabies Vaccine (ARV) schedule through May 2026. In Mhow, Forest Ranger Nayan Kumar Pallavi confirmed that the department provided immediate financial assistance of ₹1,000 to the injured farmer.

Forest Dept. Safety Advisory

Authorities have intensified monitoring, particularly around the Choral forest area. Public "Munadi" announcements are active in all fringe villages.

  • Do not step out of homes at night.
  • Avoid entering forest areas alone; move in groups if necessary.
  • Maintain vigilance and report sightings to the local beat guard immediately.

The back-to-back incidents have raised serious concerns about increasing human-wildlife conflict in the Indore and Mhow regions. As leopard movement becomes more frequent near settlements, locals are demanding stronger preventive barriers and more frequent patrols to secure the region's rural heartland.
