Our National Flower: Lotus
Materials Needed:
• 1 square sheet of paper (pink, white, or yellow preferred)
• Scissors (optional)
Instructions:
1. Start with Square Paper: Begin with a square sheet of paper. If using a rectangle, trim it into a square.
2. Fold Diagonally: Fold the paper diagonally both ways, creating an "X" crease. Unfold to reveal the creases.
3. Fold Corners to the Centre: Fold each of the four corners to meet at the centre, forming a smaller square.
4. Flip and Fold Again: Turn the paper over and fold the corners to the centre again, making the square even smaller.
5. Create Petals (First Layer): Fold each corner back out to form the petals. You’ll have four triangular petals sticking out.
6. Repeat for Second Layer: Flip the paper over, fold corners to the centre, then fold back out to create a second set of petals. You now have two layers.
7. Final Layer of Petals: Repeat the process once more to create a third layer with longer petals, giving the flower a fuller look.
8. Open the Petals: Gently separate each layer of petals, starting from the top. Carefully open them to make the lotus bloom.
9. Optional: Create the Centre: For added realism, cut a small circle of yellow or orange paper and glue it in the centre to represent the lotus’s stigma.
