Dear children,
It is that time of the year when the Board Examinations are just around the corner and the atmosphere in almost every house with a student in Class X or Class XII is the same, filled with nervousness and stress. My sincere advise to the young students is not to panic and approach these examinations with calmness and confidence. I also know that this is easier said than done. So what can one do with just days left for the examination to make sure that you are able to give it your best shot and achieve to the best of your potential.
Preparation for these examinations takes much longer than a few days and I hope you have been studying sincerely upto now. There is no magic potion, however the points listed below will help you make the most of the last few days ahead of the exams –
1. The most important thing you can do (if you have not done it yet) is to make a schedule, a timetable and a study plan which you can realistically follow. This will help you to visualise the actual time you have for each subject. With the date sheets now out, you can plan your studies for each subject based on the schedule and know exactly how much time you have for each subject. The most important thing, of course, is to stick to the schedule or time table you make. Make sure you build in some breaks in your timetable. We are often tempted to be overly ambitious and build long 2-3 hour study sessions at a stretch. This is hard to do if you have not already trained your mind to study for such long hours. If you are not already used to studying for such long hours at a stretch, I suggest taking a 10 minute break every hour. During these 10 minutes, get up, stretch your body, take a brisk walk and drink some water.

2. Use this time to practice past year question papers and practice papers for this year and do that for each subject. This will help you understand the pattern, types of questions that come along with the marking schemes. This will help you identify and give more attention to questions and topics you find difficult. It will also help you to prioritise what area of study you need to spend time on in the few days ahead of the exam.

3. Look after your health. This in some ways is most important. If you fall ill your ability to study and take the exams will be impacted greatly.
What this will mean is – stay warm, the changing weather causes many students to fall ill. Make sure you take adequate precautions and do not venture out too much outside.
It also means – eat well, giving healthy and nutritious food to your body will allow it be energised and enable you to study better.
The third aspect of looking after your health is - to manage the stress, and do this by taking some time everyday to either meditate or do yoga. 15 – 20 minutes of doing deep breathing exercises and yoga everyday will go a long way in managing the stress levels and allow you to perform to the best of your abilities.
And finally, it also means - getting enough sleep, giving adequate rest to your body is important for it to recover and allow you to be more focused when you are studying.

4. It is also important for you to know if you need toask for help. Do not hesitate or feel shy. It is better to say that you do not know or understand a topic now than to struggle with it during the exam. Reach out to your teachers, parents or friends on topics you do not understand and ask them to explain it to you. I know sometimes we hesitate as children and think about what they will say if they think I do not know this topic. What is more important is that by asking for help you will get to know it and hence be more relaxed during the examination.

5. The last advice I can give you is to stay focused. Stay away from all distractions for the next one month and that means avoid television, telephones, social media and any type of online or video games. Not only do these things cause stress to your eyes and distract your brain, they also leave messages in your brain which it keeps processing even when you have switched off from these activities.
Remember, procrastination is the recipe for regret. As I read somewhere – To be a winner, you must plan to win, prepare to win and expect to win.
So do not Panic, do not Procrastinate and do not Paralyze in fear but do Plan, do Prepare and you will Perform !

Before Pentecost, Christian community helps underprivileged families with ration

Prior to Pentecost, Christian community is following the lessons taught by Jesus Christ and helping those in need. In their drive to help underprivileged families, Christian volunteers forming a group are providing ration packets to them. Christian holiday of Pentecost, which is celebrated the 49th day (the seventh Sunday) after Easter Sunday, will be celebrated on May 31 this year. School Education Department issued an advisory to all the school heads and officers regarding precautions to be taken against the deadly novel coronavirus to prevent the spread of infection among school children.
