Make & Decorate with Hanging Diya!
To make your Paper Diya, you’ll need:
• Lots of coloured paper
• Glue
• Markers
• Sequin stickers
• Scissors
Let’s make Paper Diya!
1. Start by cutting strips from an A4 sheet of paper.
2. Fold your sheet on the narrower side to an accordion shape of approximately 1.7 cm.
3. Fold the accordion in half and glue together to make the base of the diya.
*Please note that one A4 sheet can make one large lantern or two small ones. To make two small ones, simply cut the accordion in half.
4. To make the wick, you have to again create a small accordion. For a more stable wick, you can measure and cut a square (10 x 10cm for a small wick, 15×15 cm for a large wick), fold in half and cut to make 2 triangles. Fold the triangle in an accordion shape of approximately half a cm on the longest side. Once you reach the end, fold in half and glue to make the wick.
5. Stick the wick on top of your base.
6. To add a festive feel, add strips of sequins to one side of diya and finish your paper lantern.
