IIT Kanpur & IIT Hyderabad become showstoppers with AI course
No change in top 1000 ranks required for admissions in top IITs
Despite 366 seats increasing the total no of seats to 16598 seats in 23 IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) this year, there isn’t any variation in the top 1,000 ranks required for admissions into the institute. Further, more candidates from Madhya Pradesh and other states are standing in queue at IIT Kanpur and IIT Roorkee.
The reason for most high ranking students waiting to get into these two IITs is Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science course. AI is the most sough-after course by candidates, but currently, it is available only in 2 IITs out of 23 IITs in the country.
IIT Roorkee will be starting the course from this academic session. IIT Kanpur had started the course as a pilot run for other IITs last session.
Further, Mathematics and Computing course that had lost popularity is recent years has resurfaced and is again among the top choices for students. The reason is latest advancement in the course and technology.
As for institute wise, IIT Bombay has maximum Computer Science Engineering (CSE) seats at 171 followed by IIT Dhanbad with 139 and then IIT Kanpur with 129 seats. IIT Delhi has 99 seats in CSE and IIT Roorkee has 109 seats.
10 IITs with 15 branches, Math & AI glitter after CSE
“This year, 10 IITs have started 15 branches of engineering this year,” Kapil Birthare, JEE mentor, said. He added that IIT Bombay has started four year Electrical Engineering (EE) course. There are 47 seats in the same.
“IIT Roorkee has started Data Science and AI engineering with 40 seats, which is among the most popular in students,” Birthare said. Further, IIT Guwahati has 20 seats in EE course. IIT Hyderabad has started EE with IC design and technology course and is offering 16 seats.
IIT Gandhi Nagar has started 5 year course on Computer Science Engineering and EE course with 20 seats in each. IIT Jodhpur has started Physics with specialisation and Chemistry with specialisation with 32 seats each. Further, others have started new branches too.
“CSE is popular as usual, being a safe choice, but other branches especially AI has gathered a lot of interest of students followed by Mathematics,” Birthare said.
No relief for top 1,000; 50 rank relief post 1,000
“With the announcement of new seats, students were expecting that the rank required for admissions will get some relief,” Kamal Sharma, JEE mentor said. He added that, however, that did not happen.
“For top 1,000 ranking students, the ranks remained same at which seats were allotted,” Sharma said. He added that this is the case because competition is stiffer in the top crème de la crème.
“However, there is a marginally relaxation after 1,000 of 50 ranks for students, as seen in the first Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) mock allotment,” Sharma said.

The holiday commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ. Under the drive, ration packets are given to 200 to 250 people on a regular basis. “Christ was the ultimate social worker.
