With New Education Policy 2020 instructing schools to teach in regional language as far as possible, School Education department has been planning for the same.
As the plans formulate, an initiative to introduce Punjabi as a teaching language, the department is working with Punjabi Sahitya Akademi in Indore.
Under the same, a competition to note the differences and possible implication of teaching in mother language, i.e. Punjabi, a slogan writing competition was organised in Indore.
Maximum participation was seen among students from Guru Harkrishna Public School, Mata Gujri Girls Public School, and Guru Nanak Public School in the competition.
Director of Punjabi Sahitya Akademi Neeru Singh Gyani said, “The event was organised under the name Maa Boli Punjabi to ensure better learning by promoting regional and mother tongue language.”
She added that as per the state government is determined to promote various languages and culture through Sanskriti Parishad.
The event saw participation from Jabalpur, Gwalior, Sendhwa and Indore for the promotion of Punjabi language across the state.
Participants prepared posters and wrote impressive slogans giving variety of messages from unity in diversity to elderly care in the event
Indore's program coordinator Ratanjit Singh Sherry said, “We decided to provide prizes and certificates to all the students who made very beautiful posters and slogans.” He added that NEP 2020 is bringing a four-language policy wherein a student can learn Hindi, English, a regional language and mother tongue.
Hence, Punjabi Sahitya Akademi is attempting to provide infrastructure and base for teaching mother tongue Punjabi to the interested students.
The policy promotes the use of mother tongue or local language as the medium of instruction till Class 5. Further, it recommends the use of mother tongue till Class 8 and beyond.
