Cake mixing ceremony with all the three generations of a family participating in the fun festive feel

Christian families and some other families in the city that love the festival of Christmas organised cake mixing ceremony on Sunday. Many bakeries and start-ups also organised the event to begin the Christmas month.
The cake mixing ritual is often celebrated on a grand scale to ring in the joy of the Christmas season. “This age-old Christmas tradition also marks the arrival of the harvest season,” Shanti John, an elderly lady from the community, said.
She added that the dry fruits, nuts, grains and spices that are required to make the traditional plum cake are mixed and soaked in high quality rum, wine or other alcoholic beverages. This elaborate mixing process is what gives the cake its unique flavour, aroma and texture.
“We do this every year to follow our legacy and culture of celebrating Christmas,” Vinita Vincent, a homemaker, said.
A home baker Shruti Vincent said, “My grandmother always gives me special tricks to bring richness and uniqueness in Christmas cake.”
She added that due to Covid this year we are taking special precautions and are making mini rum cakes for our family and dear one.
After Christmas Mass the mini rum cakes will be distributed among family and friends as a token of love. “Cake mixing ceremony is celebrated by our family every year in which dry fruits are soaked in wine and rum that are stored for years,” Stella Simon, a youngster, said.
