Create Stories: Yoga can be modified according to needs and abilities, yoga instructor Pankaj Soni guides special children
International Day of Yoga with special children
Engaging with people online and guiding those who are specially-abled, Create Stories organised a series of events for celebrations of International Day of Yoga on the weekend.
Founder Deepak Sharma said, “Yoga can be beneficial for individuals with disabilities or chronic health conditions through both the physical postures and breathing exercises.”
He added that each pose can be modified or adapted to meet the needs of the student. Providing personalised needed guidance to specially-abled children in Vijay Nagar, Vikram Awardee Yoga Instructor Pankaj Soni said, “Asana work on the muscles and the joints, creating space within the body’s structure to help increase circulation and improve flexibility.”
He taught postures like Viparitkarani, Sarvangasana, Matsyasana, Halasana and Suptavajrasana alternating with standing postures such as Padahastasana, Trikonasana, Padangushtasana helps Increase blood flow to the head region.
“Vrikshasana, Ardhachakrasana and Natarajasana helps to increase concentration. Bhujangasana, Ushtrasana, Chakrasana, Dhanurasana improve confidence and the body stance,” Soni said. Simhasana improves stammering, stuttering and some ear, nose and throat defects of the people to maintain these postures, he added.
World Health Organization recommends that adults and older age group people should do at least 150 minutes to 300 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity throughout the week or do at least 75 to 150 minutes of vigorous intensity aerobic physical activity throughout the week, or an equivalent combination of moderate- and vigorous-intensity activity for substantial health benefits.
