Indore: Ranjit Hanuman Temple: Devotees can get tax exemptions for donations to the temple now

Devotees of Ranjit Hanuman will also get income tax exemption on the donated amount, as the temple has been registered as a Charitable Trust.

Like the Khajrana temple, now devotees of Ranjit Hanuman will also be able to get income tax exemption on the donated amount. The Income Tax Department has registered the temple as a religious and charitable trust and made a provision for income tax exemption from the financial year 2020-21 to 2022-23.

In December 2019, the Income Tax Department had given a notice of tax demand of about 2 crores for an amount of 26 lakhs for not giving the account of the year of demonetisation. This case is still in appeal.

Following the notice, the then manager SDM Ravi Singh applied for the temple to be exempted from the Income Tax Act.

Collector Manish Singh and current manager Pratul Sinha carried it forward. CA Abhay Sharma said that earlier the receipt of the temple used to be exempt, now the institution has to give the information of the donors in the return along with the PAN number. “Donors who claim a waiver will receive a waiver after the cross check,” he added.

Only Rs 2,000 acceptable in cash for exemption

A devotee can give maximum two thousand rupees as donations in cash for the exemption. For higher amounts, devotees must give the donation in cheque especially if they are seeking tax exemption on the same.

Further, devotee will have to collect the receipt at the donation counter and give the PAN number.

With this, devotees will be able to claim rebate in returns. The amount donated in the donation box will not be discounted, as it is categorised as secret donation.
