How to ensure kids fitness during online studies? explains Fit India Ambassador Aarti Maheshwari in Create Stories webinar
In an online seminar on ‘How to make sure your child is not missing out on fitness during the era of online education’ conducted by Create Stories Social Welfare Society on its official facebook and youtube handle, Fit India Ambassador Aarti Maheshwari gave tips and essential benchmarks for kids’ fitness.
“Children need to be active for at least 60 minutes a day, six times a week. That’s the benchmark for optimal growth. So when it comes to physical activity, this is the minimum level to incorporate into their routine,” Maheshwari said. She added that forget the 60 minutes, due to online classes, most kids spend their entire day in front of the screen living a sedentary lifestyle.
“Always being active means doing small things yourself like making your own bed ready, keeping your own cup, etc. and doing regular exercise means adding a challenge,” Maheshwari said.
She added that fitness routine including any activities like yoga, dance, sports, aerobics, swimming, etc. should be a part of a growing child’s routine.
“Nutrition also plays a key role in the well-being of a child, so if children are consuming nutritionally-empty food which has lots of sugar, flour and MSG in it, it is going to affect their health negatively,” Maheshwari said.
She added that it is important to ensure that children are eating a diet primarily of whole foods such as fruits, nuts, seeds, vegetables, pulses, eggs and dairy products at home.
