The process of building Biomethanation plant that will convert wet waste into CNG in Indore has begun. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will begin the process of developing this grand plant by attending Bhoomi Pujan for the plant on Friday, i.e. today.
Indore municipal commissioner Pratibha Pal had first shared the news about development of biomethanation plant with Free Press in her exclusive interview recently.
Under the initiative for disposal of wet waste in Indore, the cleanest city in the country, Biomethanation plant will be set up at the disposal site Devguradia. The plant of 550 tonnes capacity will be set up with Bio-methanation Plant Environmental Infrastructure and Service Limited (EESL). The said plot installation is proposed to be completed in two phases.
In the first phase, 200 tonnes capacity plant will be start producing CNG in April 2021. In the second phase, the plant will run with full capacity i.e. process 500 tonnes waste into 17,500 kg CNG by December 2021.
The plant will be a joint venture or Environmental company Infrastructure and Services Limited (EESL), New Delhi and Provipes Envirotech GmbH, Germany.
On completion of the work of the plant, along with the environment proper disposal of 550 tonnes of wet waste, the plant will also become a source of income with production of CNG.
The company will spend about Rs 150 crore to set up this plant. IMC will not to bear any financial burden for establishment of this plant.
It has been determined by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, that we have to work on "Waste to Wealth" based waste disposal system. Keeping this concept in mind, the work of this bio-methanation has been taken up by IMC.
The company setting up this plant will also pay Rs 2 crore 52 lakh 50 thousand per year as premium to IMC for 20 years.
Further, 50 percent out of 17,500 kg of CNG produced in the plant will be made available to Indore at a rate of Rs 5 per kg less than the gas market rate.
IMC will use CNG to run AICTSL buses, as shared in the press statement.
The bio-methanation plant will be an important initiative in the link of self-reliant India and will also help in getting primary and specified grants by the Fifteenth Finance Commission.
