The second day of the Bible Mahotsav started with recitation of rosary and praise for the lord at St Arnold’s School premises in Lalaram Nagar on Saturday. The large gathering of over 3,000 Catholics from all over state participated in the worshiping cermonies.
The first session of praise and worship was led by Peter Menon, Brother Ram and Brother Sandeep belonging to the Varanasi team, who are in the city for the three-day fest with the main preacher Fr Anil Dev.
In the first session, Dev addressed the devotees quoting the importance of hard work. “A person who works hard, receives the blessing of God and it as simple and transparent as that,” he said.
Emphasizing the importance of Bible, Dev said, “Bible is the treasure of knowledge and whatever God created is good, but man is destroying the social order.” He cited a verse explaining that one, who follows the commandments of the Lord, has a strong foundation.
“The real happiness is to be sinless. If we walk on the way of the Lord we will have a peaceful life. One who sins destroys his own self because sins destroy the soul,” Dev said. He urged devotees to be away from sins and sinful acts.
After the first session, the Holy mass was offered by Revenant Raphy Manjaly, bishop of Allahabad; Revenant Chacko Thottumarickal SVD, bishop of Indore; Father Johny D’souza; Father Philip; Father Biju Mathew; Father Simon Raj; Father Thomas Mathew and 25 other priests.
In the second half of the day, the Varanasi team led the devotees to praise and worship with singing and preaching, in which all the devotees participated. Thereafter, in his address, Father Johny D’souza said, “We are called not to just listen to God’s word but also to follow them.” He urged people to understand the intention behind the words and not just read the bible.
Following his address, Bishop Raphy addressed the gathering quoting the price one has to pay as a disciple. “Whoever is the follower of Christ is a missionary and to become his disciple you have to pay the price. If your faith is strong he will give you salvation and eternal life. By proclaiming God’s word, your faith will grow,” he said.
After the Holy mass, bishop Chacko awarded trophies and cash prize of Rs 10,000 to each of the ten students, who had been selected for their outstanding performances. There were 5 students from class X and class XII respectively. The motive of awarding the students was to encourage students to continue working hard in their academics.
Father CB Joseph, the secretary of Education commission had picked out the names of the students. The awarded students were: Samuel Jose, Sania Saul, S Brown, Nishi Milkia, Jerin Thomas, Ronald Netawat, Ayal Jesly, Navya Mathew and Aryan Wishard.
In the second half of the day, Dev addressed the gathering and urged the people to read the Bible daily especially together with family so that God’s blessing will remain with them and keep them united. The day ended with Eucharistic procession and adoration.
The three-day fest will conclude on Sunday, with about 6,000 devotees to arrive for the grand ‘Bible Samaroh’. Archbishop of Bhopal, Rev. Leo Cornelio SVD will offer the Holy Eucharist especially for all our brothers and sisters who celebrate Diwali, the Feast of Lights.
