Retro look with traditional attire is a hit
The traditional costume of the Garba dancer is in trend in the city. It is more of a retro look that every couple is bound to choose for one of the nine special nights.
The attire is red, pink, yellow, orange, and brightly colored Chanya Choli, Lahenga Choli or Ghagra choli. Many outfits come with an addition of ‘odhini’ (veil) with bandhani (tie-die), Abhla (big mirrors) or with thick Gujarati borders.
Chaniya Cholis are decorated with beads, shells, mirrors, stars, and embroidery work, mati, etc. Similar designs on men’s attire.
Boys and men wear ‘kafni pyjamas’ with a ghagra (a short round kurta) above the knees and pagadi (turban) on the head with bandhini dupatta, kada (men’s bracelet), and mojiris (traditional shoes).
Dholida Kedia for comfort and style
Making dresses stylish and comfortable in Indian flowy patterns, designers have come up with ‘Dholida Kedia’ dresses for women. The dress re-creates dhoti blending it with salwar to form designer bottoms. The outfit is perfect for modern women. It gives a feminine look in a comfortable setting. The dress challenges gender bias by making women stand out in dhoti style bottoms. The bottoms are paired with Kedia, which is a flared top. Such designer outfits are available in various colours and patterns at Snehlata Ganj. Fashion enthusiast Harshita Sinha customises and provides these dresses for rent during the Garba season.
Matching couple light weight designs
Matching couple outfits is definitely a go-to choice for many. It not only makes it easier to stand together, but even apart from the crowd. Mirror work is popular especially in men’s fashion. The reflecting mirror with LED lights and neon threads are loud matching the feel of Garba events. Lighted dresses are re-created by Jeet Kachhawa at Bajrang Nagar.
Ghagra choli easy to dance in
The cutwork design ghagra is a quick adopting style for women, who love to dance with energy. Unlike half ghagra, it looks decent, but provides enough comfort to women to dance across the large hall without the risk to fall.
Imitating a thali, the colourful take
The colourful thali attire is among the most trending designs for Garba this season. The new style has been inspired from thali, i.e. a plate. The plate is decorated with various colours, ornaments and decorations that are used for prayers and rituals.
Similarly, this outfit is designed to bring out various layers and colours blended in one, as done on the plate. The designs are available from renting websites, one run by Dikshant Mahant in Indore.
