World Senior Citizen's Day: Resources for children with experience and irreplaceable knowledge

They hold the knowledge that comes with experience and cannot be replaced by the best education, but many are left out by their families because of ageing problems. With the increasing culture of nuclear families, many families tend to live away from the seniors and enjoy their freedom. However, this freedom comes with a cost of raising children, who are more prone to suffering from anxiety disorders specifically separation anxiety disorder.
Bringing different colours from the life experience of seniors on this World Senior Citizen's Day, we are joining the celebrations of the day. World Senior Citizen’s Day is celebrated on the 21st of August each year. It was first proclaimed by the General Assembly of the United Nations on December 14, 1990.
Following are some renowned seniors in the city along a psychiatrist’s quote on present scenario of families, which do not have seniors.
Senior is the resource children need
When older adults contribute to the well-being of youth, it cultivates a sense of purpose and extends benefits both ways, according to a new study conducted at Stanford centre for longevity. Contrary to widespread beliefs that older populations consume resources that would otherwise go to youth, there is growing reason to think that older people may be just the resource children need. In fact, it is observed, studied and concluded that children, who live in nuclear families tend to suffer more from separation anxiety and other psychological disorders of insecurity.

Enjoy digital, but learn from Reel
Being a photographer, I can explain my life lesson and experience in the reel form. Though there are many benefits of having digital cameras, the picture clicked from a reel camera cannot be replaced by them. We need to understand that and remember to learn from every aspect of life. This stands true for all aspects of our lifestyle today.

Skills beyond books
I grew up in a small village and throughout my life, I saw people connected with their environment in every possible way. From resolving digestion to complicated medical issues, everything was done using nature’s produce. In fact, even I learned those skills and used them following my mother and grandmother. The same way those skills can still solve many complications, which modern medicine cannot, seniors can provide knowledge and lessons, which books cannot.

Passing on lessons is biggest achievement

I am best friends with my grandsons and have been able to pass on my lesson to sports to them. Though I could get my son interested in sports, I could never get him into becoming a passionate sportsperson like myself. My grandsons have taken up on my passion and I think, that is the biggest achievement of my life. I have many medals in my closet, but being able to gift something that will make my grandsons’ life healthier is my biggest achievement.

Senior is like traditional folk art

Being an artist, like most artists, I am fond of traditional folk art of India. There is an essence and life in those art forms, which allow us to freely express life. This is the perfect definition of a senior as I understand it. As I have grown with age, I have becoming happier, kinder and wiser, which is a lesson I could not learn any other way.

Prior to Pentecost, Christian community is following the lessons taught by Jesus Christ and helping those in need. Christian holiday of Pentecost, which is celebrated the 49th day (the seventh Sunday) after Easter Sunday, will be celebrated on May 31 this year. The holiday commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ. Under the drive, ration packets are given to 200 to 250 people on a regular basis. “Christ was the ultimate social worker.
