MP inspires artists to explore its culture and diversity

Preparing to exhibit their artwork in Lalit Kala Akademi’s two-day art exhibition in Indore from Aug 28, group of 15 artists from all over India assembled in the city and moved to Maheshwar to prepare their artworks on Monday. The artists chose to prepare their artworks in Madhya Pradesh because of its rich history and scenic beauty that varies with every step.
Attempting to capture the beauty and essence of the state, the artists are using majority of golden colour in their paintings. The idea behind use of golden is to bring out the royalty of the state that does not depend on its history to keep art and culture alive.
“Unlike many states, where art is shown in palaces and historic buildings, MP still has representation of folk art everywhere in state whether it is in streets of Indore, Jhabua, Ujjain, Bhopal or Maheshwari,” the group of artists quoted.
Some paintings were almost ready by the end of the day, which the artists shared with Free Press.
Artworks representing state
“The respect lay down to plants and specifically genus like dandelion is the basic idea in the painting. One can always learn from simplicity followed by tribes and ancient scriptures and MP is the perfect example of the same.”
Kiran Soni Gupta from Delhi with her painting
“I have always been fascinated with the design of mandana, which is of course found in MP. It does not always need too many colours to stand out.”
Priya Patil from Mumbai with her painting
“The two sides which can be seen in MP vary from ancient traditions to start-up and business hub. With its diversity, the state brings together different colours, flavours and lifestyles in a perfect sync. This is my representation of the state.”
