Bringing pride to the city with AIR (All India Rank) 464 in UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) examination, 27-year-old Anchita Kethwas has chosen to serve the country in Indian Foreign Service (IFS) over joining Indian Administrative Service (IAS), which is a popular choice.
“I want to represent our country across the world, which was my childhood dream that is coming true,” Anchita said, giving reason for her choice. She has done her masters in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi.
“I prepared for two years for clearing UPSC exam, studying for 10 hours every day, and it was all worth the success I received,” Anchita said. Being a graduate in commerce, she struggled with science and social science subjects initially, but managed with help from friends and teachers.
“I was expecting a better score, but my score fell because of an unexpected injury during the first paper,” Anchita said. As she was heading out for giving the examination, she had fallen and suffered a ligament tear.
“Despite taking a painkiller for relief, I struggled with pain throughout the paper and even suffered from it for the following two days,” Anchita said. However, she made up for it by performing better in interview round.
“The highest score in interview was 195 and I scored 193, which was among top scores,” Anchita said. Her parents (DSP Shashi Kethwas and second assistant in commercial tax Narayan Kethwas) have always supported her ambitions and proudly celebrated her achievement.
Her younger brother (Naman) is likely to follow her footsteps and is currently preparing for state examinations.
