A 12-hour-long ‘Tiranga Run’ will be organised on August 18 from 6 am to 6 pm in Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Takshila campus. The run is being organised by Indore Superchargers group for promoting fitness in the city.
“We are the cleanest city of India, we can also be greenest and healthiest city, because every residents supports improvement and development in Indore,” group president Dr Yogendra Vyas said. This is the second season the 12-hour run in the city.
“There would be participants from all over India and even some international runners, who will join the run in Indore,” Vyas said. He added that about 700 runners will be joining the run.
“We have already received confirmation of 40 runners, who will be completing the full run of 12 hours,” Vyas said. Runners from different parts of the country including Greater Noida, Balaghat, Surat and Bhopal have already registered themselves to participate in the run.
“There are 15 runners from Indore, who will be running for 12 hours and completing the full run to inspire others to take the health challenge,” Vyas said.
Some participants who are up for the challenge of 12-hour run include Ruchi Masih, Subhash Masih, Kartik Sharma, Ganpad Firoda, Narendra Dadarwal, Prem Dua, Gurudvash Sharma, Dinesh Solanki and Madhvi Baraniya. “Two females are among first participants for the full run, which is a wonderful change to see,” Vyas said.
Run to prevent obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, some cancers
In order for a runner to complete the run while keeping healthy, one must take in 300 to 400 calories per hour with at least 350 to 300 ml water, as shared by group secretary Dr Rajneesh Kutumbale. Overall, runners participating in the 12-hour run must take in 5,000 to 6,000 calories to meet their body’s requirement.
Poha, Idli Sambhar, Sandwiches and Gud would be some healthy choices offered to runners to meet the calorie requirements. “It is not necessary to run for 12 hours, just every person should workout for 140 minutes to beat various health issues that arise due to sedentary lifestyle,” Kutumbale said.
He added that studies have shown that running can help prevent obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, some cancers, and a host of other unpleasant conditions. “What's more, scientists have shown that running also vastly improves the quality of your emotional and mental life,” Kutumbale said.
