Students to help build Indore as the 'Smartest City'

Indore, the cleanest city of India can become the smartest city of India soon, with school students joining the initiatives and engaging in community development projects.
In the recent meeting of Sahodaya Group of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) schools, group president Reena Khurana had invited Aditi Garg, CEO of smart city project. Aditi talked about various projects under smart city for Indore.
“We have about 235 projects under smart city to make Indore smart,” she said. Many of these projects are targeted towards community development along with technology.
With an aim to engage students in practical learning and making them responsible citizens, the group requested collaboration from Aditi. Appreciating the idea, she gave her consent and confirmed collaboration of CBSE schools with smart city project.
Under the collaboration, school students will be working on the allotted project and coming up with innovative solutions for solving community issues in Indore. “Children will become smart and responsible citizens if they work on issues that affect our society,” Reena said.
Giving an example, she talked about various ways in which, birds can be brought back to the city. “Starting from innovative ideas to their implementation, students can learn various principles of mathematics, geography, science, social science and more by engaging in such projects,” Reena said.
“What got Indore to win the title of cleanest city of India is the quick change in behaviour of Indoreans along with government’s will, clearly, we can change and excel at bringing change,” Reena said.
She quoted that bringing responsibility and change in children from their childhood is much more essential for a brighter future. “When kids will reach out to Indore, learn about its problems, work on development, we are sure to become the smartest city of India very soon,” Reena said.
The collaborative learning process would also make Indore’s CBSE schools stand apart in ‘Innovating teaching techniques’ that have to be developed by all CBSE schools as per the board’s instructions. “It was my dream project and with our students ready to take upon the smart challenge of the future, we can become an example of innovative and experiential learning for the country,” Reena said.
The group will again meet Aditi to discuss on possible projects in the coming weeks. As per the discussions, Aditi would be assigning the task to an officer titling him as ‘champion’ to coordinate on projects with the schools.
