Biopic requires living the character, not just playing it

Addressing the gathering of students from various institutes including hearing impaired and mute students, Pranay Kumar (brother of Anand Kumar) and actor Nandish Singh Sandhu shared their journey of making the movie ‘Super 30’ at Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya on Saturday.
While Kumar did not choose to share much, his life, personality and experience was shared by his brother and actor Nandish Singh Sandhu, who is playing his role in the movie alongside lead actor Hrithik Roshan.

“It takes a lot to come into a character in a biopic as compared to playing fictional story roles, for example, I had to actually stop working out, lie in sun everyday to tan myself in Rajasthan and get a different haircut,” Sandhu said. He explained that getting into character was much tougher, because it required in-depth study of Kumar.
“It is not about learning to act like them, it is about living and being them every-time,” Sandhu said. Learning from Roshan, he was also living like younger Kumar at home, eating like them and dressing like them to prepare for the movie.
“We had a 150 hour movie on the Kumar family, which all of us watched, was referred by our trainers and made a part of our life to learn the roles,” Sandhu said. He added that training, preparation is a much-longer process than just shooting the movie.
“Even now, I cannot stop observing Kumar, because it has become a habit to study him, be like him,” Sandhu said. He cited how Kumar sits with his hands folded, looking fearless even on a casual drive in the car.
“Roshan had been acting like a brother throughout the shoot, which not only helped in getting in the character of his younger brother, but taught me a lot about acting,” Sandhu said.
